Merit's Cult Solo Shadow Gets a Luminous Upgrade: Our Verdict
When Merit launched its Solo Shadow in 2023, it was an instant hit. The eyeshadow's creamy, buildable texture and soft-matte finish were everything we expected from the minimalist brand. It was easy, elevated, and designed to make everyday makeup effortless.
Now, in response to customer demand, Merit has introduced Solo Shadow Sheen. This buildable, self-setting cream eyeshadow delivers a wash of pearlescent color. "When we launched Solo Shadow in 2023, we received requests for a shimmery version, leading to the development of Solo Shadow Sheen," says Aila Morin, Merit's Chief Marketing Officer.

"It's our take on the glitter eyeshadows of the '90s and late-night clubs, made wearable for our adult lives when we want a bit of fun," she adds. The campaign stars Christina Ricci, who embodies the nostalgic yet modern vibe perfectly.
The formula includes jojoba extract for seamless blendability and all-day wear. It's infused with microfine pearls for a multidimensional sheen that glides effortlessly onto lids with fingers or a brush. This is a game-changer for those with oily eyelids, as it doesn't crease and has a flattering finish.
I tested the shades Iris (a cool, soft plum), Matchbook (a warm coppery burgundy), and Glacé (a frosty rose). The texture is buttery and blendable, and once it sets, it stays put all day. No smudging, creasing, or budging, even after hours of wear.
Solo Shadow Sheen is uncomplicated, wearable, and beautifully understated. It's everything we've come to expect from Merit. I'm officially adding it to my everyday makeup routine.
